Youth Basketball Uniforms How To Know What Size To Buy For Your Child

If your child is growing rapidly it’s a real effort to nail the sizing of their uniforms to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck. At Vortex, we want to make sure that your purchase doesn’t leave them feeling like they are wearing spanx in a month after purchase. So, we’ve put together a few tips below for how you should go about picking a size for our basketball singlets and shorts.

BASKETBALL SINGLETS

There are two measurements (cm) you need to complete to determine what size you should be buying for your kids.

Firstly, grab a singlet that they wear for physical activity and is loose fitting. We recommend measuring a comfortable loose fitting singlet as it will be the closest match to our basketball singlets sizing. Then as pictured below:

  1. Measure the width of the top from one underarm base to the other
  2. Measure the length from the top to the bottom of the singlet

It’s important to note that female basketball singlets fit higher underneath the arm than men’s and have a second layer of mesh under the front section for single side mesh singlets only.

Once you have measured these two sections refer to our sizing guide to determine their size. As pictured below.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT BASKETBALL SHORTS

Our Basketball shorts are quite a loose fit. Generally, the shorts sizing matches up with the width of the singlets so providing there is not a significant difference in proportions of top compared to the bottom, the corresponding size should suffice.

The only additional measurement you might like to consider is the length from the top of the waist band to the knee in cm. This works best if your child already owns a comfortable fitting pair of basketball shorts that you can use to determine the leg length. This should provide a clear indication as to whether the length of the shorts will be sufficient coverage for your child now and as they continue to grow. Additionally, the waistbands of our basketball shorts are highly elasticised with a strong cord tie, allowing room for growth. At Vortex Sportswear, we've seen parents deal with the headache that is the sprouting 'beanstalkian' child and in special circumstances we offer custom options to extend the short length on our basketball shorts so that your child doesn't look like an early era Michael Jordan 'in a few months.' Leg length comes down to personal preference with the majority of customers happily ordering regular length.
